The unseasonably warm weather has been very good to the fruit trees around Houston. Last weekend, ours were just putting on a few green leaves and now they are just this side of being in full bloom. Here’s to hoping that we’re done with frosts and freezes. “Come on in Spring—sit a spell.”

We also messed around a lot in the vegetable garden. Buchanan’s got a massive shipment of heirloom tomato plants in Friday evening. Knowing that the good ones go quickly, we pounced on them after work. We ended up with four plants, Rutgers, Black Krim, Oaxacan Jewell, and Creole.

As well as tomatoes, we started some heirloom tomatillo seeds, slenderette bush beans, sugar snaps, Texas 1015 sweet onions, and cucumbers. It was quite the productive weekend.

I’d like to give a big thanks to Scott and Kendra at A Sonoma Garden for the greatly informative treatise on onionage.
